Psychological and emotional tensions in human relationships. Guy Baekelmans tries to analyze the causes that can form the basis of a destiny. The series is close to pop art. The figures quickly disappear from the canvas and the capricious volumes remain behind.

The Artist – Guy Baekelmans
The unsold works of art can be exhibited by appointment in our permanent exhibition space in the Du Parc buildings in Aalst.
Starting in 1968 with figures and shapes in the style of Pop art and Hard edge, Guy Baekelmans (°1940, Berchem) quickly implemented simplifications in shape and color. The evolution towards constructivism in the first 20 years was accompanied by an early interest in Eastern philosophies and led to optical and dynamic interactions constructed in the square. Together with P.R. de Poortere and Guy Vandenbranden, Guy Baekelmans founded the “International Study Center for Constructive Art” in 1972. From the 1980s, the importance of the three-dimensional increases with autonomous, often monumental sculptures. A freer expression follows from a Buddhist universalism, which Guy Baekelmans describes as an opening to inexhaustible references outside time and space, created by the interaction between the inner microcosm and the outer macrocosm, indivisible and in total symbiosis. The publication, written by E. Van Buynder, F. Boenders and S. Delobel, was made possible with the support of the Flemish Government’s Arts Decree.
